    Our club was chartered in 1940. Membership is composed of business & professional men and women; for many years it was Greeneville's largest civic club. Lions Club International remains the largest civic organization in the world.
    The Lions are men and women dedicated to serving those in need, whether in their own community or anyplace in the world. In addition to humanitarian service, they enjoy fellowship and develop leadership qualities. The primary aim of the Lions is service: first in the local community and second to those in need
elsewhere.
    Lions colors are purple and gold. Purple represents loyalty to country, friends, self, and the integrity of mind & heart. It is the color of strength, courage, and dedication to a cause. Gold symbolizes sincerity or purpose, liberality in judgment, purity in life, and generosity in mind, heart, and purse towards mankind.
    Yearly projects are a spring golf tournament, and the sale of light bulbs & brooms. Our primary goal is to assist in the prevention of blindness and other related eye diseases. Monies are spent in assisting people on fixed income to obtain eye examination and glasses. We also assist the blind in obtaining seeing-eye dogs and surgery. We have pledged $5000 over the next five years for the Youth Blind Center at Vanderbilt Hospital, the only one of its kind in the Southeast. We have donated over $7000 to the City of Greeneville for parks and recreation for youths. Each year we pay for eye examinations in both city and county schools.
    Club dues are payable quarterly in the amount of $80 for working members, and $70 for non-working or retired members. Dues include meals during the weekly meetings.
